On the third day of our mission trip, we began early as we made our way to a place on the other end of the island called Mabini.

The Jeffrey Bernales Story

During our last trip in August 2012, we met a young boy by the name of Jeffrey Bernales who was passionate about serving God. At the tender age of 21 he enrolled himself in Bible College to study Theology. He came from a place called Mabini. He was the eldest of 5 children to Romel and Chona Bernales. They lived in very basic conditions but loved God with all their heart.

During our visit last year, we were moved by Jeffrey’s testimony and passion for God and since only 50% of his Degree in Theology was sponsored by the college, God moved our hearts to sponsor the remaining 50%. So began our new friendship with Jeffrey. However in Dec 2012, Jeffrey suffered a bad asthma attack in the middle of the night and did not survive it. He passed away on the 21st of Dec.

This trip that we made on the 3rd day, was to visit his parents and siblings and visit the grave of Jeffrey. The place was 2 hours away from Tagbilaran, where were. Upon arrival at his family home, we got to meet his entire family and we spent a few hours talking to his parents. we got to have lunch with them and then made our way to see the grave sight of Jeffrey. Although it was an emotional day for all of us, the one thing that we are thankful for is the fact that through Jeffrey’s life, many young youths have changed their lives and the father has decided to continue what Jeffrey had started in Mabini and that is to reach out to youths.

After our 2 hour journey back to Tagbilaran, we made our way to a supermarket, where we spent several hours shopping for food items for the next day. There were items on our list and it took us quite sometime to shop for all those whom we wanted to bless.
